Shoots
On 8/1/26, Lower Providence Rod and Gun Club will start hosting Sanctioned CMP Matches on our 100 Yard Range (Location B1). This means that experienced shooters who are registered with the CMP and who have previously been classified by the CMP can now shoot at our Club and have their scores submitted to the CMP Organization for certification. This exciting new step is great not just for our own LPRGC CMP experienced shooters, but will hopefully benefit the Regional CMP community by providing another location where “shots count”!
To bring about this change, starting in August there will be some changes to the way LPRGC CMP matches are organized and run:
- The first change is that our single match will become 2 matches-
- The Experienced CMP shooters who possess a CMP Number and Classification will shoot the first match starting at 8:00AM in the morning, with first shots at 8:30AM
- New shooters or those without a CMP Number/Classification will shoot in the second match, starting at 9:30AM in the morning, with first shots around 10:00AM (after the first match concludes and the range is reset)
- To align our shoots with the Regional averages, the cost of our matches will raise to $20.00 per shooter (with Juniors under 18 still shooting for free!)
- Similarly, the cost for Club-supplied ammunition will increase- still a great deal at 60 rounds for $40.00.
As for the Matches:
SANCTIONED MATCH: NOTE: This match is restricted to shooters who possess a CMP Number and Classification. Also, to comply with Club regulations, all firearms must be brought to the line in a case and uncased/recased at the line ONLY
Starting on August 1st, 2026, the Lower Providence Rod and Gun Club (LPRGC) will begin hosting monthly sanctioned CMP non-EIC matches on the 1st Saturday of the Month year-round. We have a 100 yard range with 10 firing points bordered on both sides by high earthen berms, so wind is rarely a factor. We currently shoot on paper, however the Club is in the process of procuring electronic targets to shoot on.
Cost: The cost for the match is $20.00, payable in cash at the match. Ammunition is available for sale at the Match (55gr FMJ and 62grM885) at $40.00 per 60 rounds
Time: Signup time is 8:00AM, with first shots at 8:30AM
Location: The address of the Lower Providence Rod and Gun Club (LPRGC) is: 2857 Egypt Road, Audubon, PA, 19407. The location of the 100 Yard Range is B1.
Course of Fire: This is a 50-shot Match by CMP rules, and the Course of Fire is:

• 2 sighting shots, followed by 10 shots Rapid Fire- Seated
• 2 sighting shots, followed by 10 shots Rapid Fire- Prone
• 2 sighting shots followed by 20 shots Slow Fire- Prone
All range commands are provided by former CMP competitors and RSOs with many years of experience calling the Match, so come join us for a great shoot!

NON-SANCTIONED MATCH: No CMP Number or Classification required
The Shoot:
The LPRGC Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has regular shoots on the 1st Saturday of each Month at the our Club. The address for the Club is 2857 Egypt Road, Audubon, PA, 19403. Plan on arriving at 9:30AM for registration, training (new shooters), and setting up the targets. Please report to the Shed (the large building behind the firing line) to register for the shoot. First shots will be around 10:00AM, and the shoot usually finishes around 12:00 PM. No experience is required for this shoot, and there will be experienced shooters on hand to help you get comfortable and have some fun.
NOTE: Please be advised that when you arrive at 9:30AM a Sanctioned CMP Match will likely be in progress- feel free to watch that Match, but please keep conversations well away from the firing line. Believe it or not, even through ear protection they can hear you, and it’s very distracting!
You can use any Military rifle, such as the AR-15, M1 Garand, Carbine, or M-14. If you do not have one, you can be provided with a loaner rifle (you must shoot the Club ammunition in the loaner rifles). We have AR-15’s, Garands, and M1 Carbines available for loan for the shoot. All targets and other necessities will be provided by the Club at the shoot. That said, please bring your own eye and ear protection- we have a limited amount on hand, so there is no guarantee we will be able to supply them for you.
The Course of Fire is:
- 10 shots for sighters (single load, single fire in the prone position)
- 10 shots off hand (single load, single fire in the standing position)
- 10 shots sitting (10 shots in 63 seconds in the seated position)
- 10 shots prone (10 shots in 73 seconds in the prone position)
- 20 shots prone (single load, single fire in the prone position)
Location: Lower Providence Rod and Gun Club- 2857 Egypt Road, Audubon, PA, 19403. We shoot on the 100 yard range at Location B1, which is close to the Pinetown Road entrance to the Club.
Time: 9:30AM in the Shed for registration, first shots around 10:00AM
Cost: All Juniors (18 and under) shoot for free. For everyone else, the cost for the shoot is $20.00. Adults may purchase 60 rounds of .30-’06, .223, or .30 carbine for $40.00 that must be shot at the match- we do not sell ammunition for “take away” from the event. Please keep in mind that you must use our ammunition in the loaner rifles.
Who Can Attend: Anyone with a desire to improve their shooting skills- this shoot is open to the Public!
We encourage both inexperienced and experienced shooters to come and join us for an enjoyable and safe shooting experience. We are here to sharpen your shooting skills, provide you with a fun and safe shooting experience, and introduce you to the sport of High Power Shooting. Come on out and have a great day shooting!

General Information About the CMP
The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) promotes firearms safety training and rifle practice for all U.S. citizens with special emphasis on youth. The CMP operates through a network of affiliated shooting clubs and associations that covers every state in the U.S. The clubs and associations offer firearms safety training and marksmanship courses as well as the opportunity for continued practice and competition. Lower Providence Rod & Gun Club (LPRGC) is such an affiliate.
The CMP was created by the U.S. Congress. The original purpose was to provide civilians an opportunity to learn and practice marksmanship skills so they would be skilled marksmen if later called on to serve the U.S. military. Over the years the emphasis of the program shifted to focus on youth development through marksmanship. From 1916 until 1996 the CMP was administered by the U.S. Army. The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1996 (TITLE XVI) created the Corporation for the Promotion of Rifle Practice & Firearms Safety, Inc. (CPRPFS) to take over administration and promotion of the CMP. The CPRPFS is a tax-exempt not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that derives its mission from public law.
For information on the purchase of an M1 Garand contact CMP National Headquarters at (888) 267-0796 or visit their web site at www.odcmp.com. LPRGC can assist if you want to buy one- we are an affiliated Club and have the paperwork necessary to meet the purchase requirements set by the CMP Organization.
